CryptoBrickie Profile

Ed as The Narrator

Actors Series

The Actors Series features portraits of famous actors in some of their most recognisable forms.

In Ed as The Narrator, the artist imagines the actor Edward Norton in CryptoBrickie form as the character The Narrator from the cult 1999 movie, Fight Club. He is featured in this portrait in The Narrator’s work clothes from scenes at a cancer support group meeting. The fake name "Cornelius" is written on a name tag on his shirt.

Based on the novel by the same name by writer Chuck Palahnuik, and directed by David Fincher, Fight Club did not do well at the box office, but slowly over time began to develop a cult following.

The movie is now studied in universities and there is a lot to debate about the many meanings within it, probably because the film did not diverge far from the original novel and the ideas within that. For the artist, the existential undertones of The Narrator resonated …"On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero"… The artist identifies with The Narrator’s struggle with mental health, depression and the questioning of reality itself. …."This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time. You wake up at Air Harbor International. If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?"

In the opinion of the artist, the movie is more relevant now than it was in the late 1990s.
