Gunkan means 'warship' and Gunkan Maki gets is name from it's elongated shape resembling a military vessel. Rice is hand pressed into a ball and then wrapped in seaweed (nori) to make a cup that can be filled with toppings. Fermented soy beans (Natto) have a unique strong, salty flavour and sticky texture, and are the topping on Natto Gunkan.
