Gunkan means 'warship' and Gunkan Maki gets is name from it's elongated shape resembling a military vessel. Rice is hand pressed into a ball and then wrapped in seaweed (nori) to make a cup that can be filled with toppings. Flying Fish Roe (Tobiko) are small fish eggs with a red-orange colour, mild smoky or salty taste, and crunchy texture.
